Basta May Saging features songs and music written for specific advocacies, dance, and film.
Básta May Ságing is a rap-inflected kind of folk-rock encouragment to eat bananas, featuring Bagong Lumad veterans Onie Badiang and Noe Tio.
Kadayáwan is a street-dancing piece laden with bamboo, gong and hegalong riffs produced to underscore the annual thanksgiving festival of Davao City.
Túbig, originally written for the Well Driller’s Association of the Philippines, is a ditty that goes well with theme of eating natural foods.
Líttle Girl is music from Sayaw LikhANG KIUKOK, choreography by Agnes Locsin based on the late Ang Kiukok’s paintings.
Durián is from 16lovesongs, and is included here to punctuate the heavily-Davao-flavored programming of this album.
Sayáw ng MagAsáwa is from Labaw Donggon, choreography by Agnes Locsin based on the Hiligaynon epic.
LamíGináw was choreographed by Brandon Miranda for Ballet Philippines’ Noche Buena, directed by Agnes Locsin. This piece features Cynthia Alexander and Jay Durias.
Ísla was written for the film Isla by Celso Ad Castillo and is built on the image of an island girl diving into the sea swimming to her destiny.
Sayáw ng Réyna was choreographed by Paul Morales for Ballet Philippines’ Noche Buena directed by Agnes Locsin. Cynthia Alexander developed this piece from a JA-supplied polymetric struccture into a regal play of wood, cymbals and computer-sequenced tuned percussion.
The album’s program is rounded off by the lush and moving Último Adiós from 16lovesongs and Túngo sa Liwánag from ‘Sandosena.
There’s a bonus track, a minus one of Básta May Ságing.
